We all know about Kimimaro from the original Naruto series, who dedicated his life to serving Orochimaru but was unable to become his vessel due to his illness. Now, here’s my theory: Kimimaro hails from the Kaguya Clan, direct descendants of Kaguya, who is an Otsutsuki. We also know about Orochimaru’s obsession with immortality, which led him to create the Curse Mark as a means of resurrection (soul transfer).
I believe that the Curse Mark was actually created using Kimimaro’s DNA. Since Kimimaro is a descendant of the Otsutsuki, Orochimaru was able to use this unique genetic lineage to create an inferior version of the Karma. This could indicate that Orochimaru’s experiments with Kimimaro’s Otsutsuki-derived DNA led to an incomplete, less stable version of the Karma seal. In essence, Orochimaru may have been trying to replicate the power of the Otsutsuki clan, but on a much smaller scale.

The originators of both the curse seal and karma can take over the body of the vessel whenever they please.
So yeah. They’re pretty alike.
A good comparison is this: The Karma is a shinjutsu, while the Curse Mark is a watered-down version of it; a fuinjutsu.
Well, they both grant power but have different origins and effects. Curse Marks are forced upon someone by Orochimaru, giving power but at the cost of control and potential harm. Karma, from “Boruto,” is essentially an Otsutsuki’s compressed data that can be implanted into someone, gradually rewriting them.
So, yeah, Curse Marks could be seen as an inferior, riskier version of Karma.
while I agree that the curse mark is a water down version of the karma, an imitation of it like Amado said all ninjutsu are, I don’t think kimimaro had anything to do with it. Orochimaru created the curse mark from studying jugos clan. The curse mark was supposed to be Orochimaru way of using sage Jutsu.

Kimmimaro had nothing to do with orochimaru creating curse mark. Orochimaru used jugo to create the curse mark.
buffs stats, revives himself through it, gives a tatoo on the first stage and a transformation on the second stage yeah allat is the same as cursed mark

To be fair it’s true that in usage both karma and orochimaru’s curse mark do look similar, however functionally the two work very differenly. Karma is basically just an otsutsuki forcing their dna into a host body to eventually take control kinda like some parasytes would infect a host with their eggs. The curse mark is loosely explained to be orochimaru’s senjutsu/nature chakra being partially transfered and sealed in a certain way onto a potential vessel, so their body and conscience slowly grow into accepting orochimaru’s presencein a way that would make it easier for himto take control while using his body swaping jutsu. We see what happens when he tries to take over sasuke’s body and eventually fail.
