In the future scene of the Boruto vs Kawaki battle , when the great stone face statues are shown, only 7 faces are there, which means there’s no official 8th Hokage. We know Shikamaru didn’t take the Hokage position officially. in the latest chapter, Kobu wants to elect Konahamaru as 8th Hokage, simply for his own motives. But again, there’s no 8th official Hokage statue.
It leads to 3 simple conclusions:
- Shikamaru continues as a stand in Hokage but it feels unlikely to be the case.
- Konahamaru is the 8th Hokage and his face statue is not yet made. This can be the case, but the main problem is you need someone with political knowledge when dealing with Kobu who wants to end the shinobi system.
- The most likely case is that Kakashi Hatake, the former 6th Hokage , returns and takes on the position of Hokage just like how Hiruzen did when the 4th Hokage died.
Moreover, Kakashi is familiar with feudal lords’ policies, and trusts Shikamaru too. Kakashi will continue to fight for the existence of shinobi. Also, a few years ago Ikemoto teased that Kakashi has a major role in the Boruto manga. This is why I think it is time for the beloved Kakashi to return.
